John F. Kennedy on Fear

January 1st, 2009
· Filed Under: Goals and Aspirations · Podcasts · Success Strategies

goalsJohn F. Kennedy once said:"Our Fears must never hold us back from pursuing our hopes"

It’s the beginning of a new year… a year filled with new hopes dreams and goals

Many of us approach achieving our goals like its homework. This can bring up the fear and pressure you once felt back in school when you didn’t complete your homework on time.

Unlike school, you do get an extension to complete your desired goal.

Remember it’s not as important when your complete your goal as that you DO complete it

Don’t let the fear of missing a self imposed goal date stop you from moving forward.

There is no pass or fail grade assigned to goals… you either move toward or away from them… fear will move you away.

Let go of your fears… think step by step. Goals are achieved one step at a time… one action at a time.

As long you keep taking steps… taking action, you’ll eventually arrive. Take an action step today…

Don’t let the fear of missing a goal date stop you from making this your best year ever…Ask yourself what do you need to do to keep moving forward?

Want to Increase Your Chances For Success?

December 23rd, 2008
· Filed Under: Goals and Aspirations · Success Strategies

persistenceNearly everyone who develops an idea works it until it looks impossible and then gets discouraged. That’s not the place to become discouraged.

It is often at this point that many only see the obstacle and no longer sees their idea.

They give into discouragement, opposition and obstacles. Not knowing a breakthrough was on the horizon. If only they were persistent.

The dictionary defines persistent as: to continue firmly or obstinately. Persistence is a state of mind.

In the words of Thomas Edison, "Just because something doesn’t do what you planned it to do doesn’t mean it’s useless…. Reverses should be an incentive to great accomplishment. Results? Why, man, I have gotten lots of results! If I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is just one more step forward…. There are no rules here, we’re just trying to accomplish something."

Thomas Edison had boasted he would invent a safe, mild, and inexpensive electric light. After spending $40,000, and performing 1200 experiments, he succeeded.

What if he quit at 1199? We would all be sitting in the dark!

You’ll have obstacles before you can have success. Even the dictionary puts the word obstacle before success.

Obstacles are there to strengthen you and offer progressive measurement of your growing strength. Discouragement sets in when you misunderstand the purpose of struggles and obstacles. Dwelling on struggles, can cause you to question your goals and the faith to believe in yourself. This leads to self doubt. When you allow self doubt to creep in you become susceptible to the fear of criticism. Criticism will stop you from pursuing your ideas and dreams.

Persistence is a conscious decision. You can train yourself to be a persistent person.

Napoleon Hill gives eight factors that persistence is based upon:

  1. Definite purpose - know what you want.
  2. Desire
  3. Self-reliance -the belief to carry out your plan
  4. Definite plans - written organized plan.
  5. Accurate knowledge - knowing your plan is sound.
  6. Cooperation - being with others who will help you develop persistence.
  7. Will power - concentrate your thoughts on obtaining your goals.
  8. Habit - persistence is a habit that can be consciously developed.

How to Develop Persistence

1. Have a definite purpose backed up with a strong desire to obtain it. Write it down.

2. Have a plan of action. How are you going to make it happen. What do you need to do.

3. Close your mind to negativity and discouraging influences. Self talk can be the most damaging. Watch which were saying to yourself.

4. Develop a group of people who will encourage you but also hold you accountable to follow through on your actions.

Winston Churchill gave a speech over 60 years ago on Oct. 29th. These words are still applicable today. "Never give in–never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yielded to force; never yielded to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

Believe in yourself. Believe in your goals. Stay focused. Never change your goal-just your plans, replace the plan if necessary, but not your goal.

Persistence must become a way of life if you want to succeed. By learning to overcome problems and barriers, you can become a tremendous person.

Time Management and Your Memory?

December 11th, 2008
· Filed Under: Entrepreneur Time Management

Don’t blame your memory for problems really caused by poor time management habits. Hurrying causes you to forget things you would ordinarily remember.

Use these tips to gain better control over your memory and time.

  • Build both review time and wrap-up time into your daily schedule. A few quiet moments to think ahead in the morning and a few moments at the end of the day before leaving work or retiring in the evening will do wonders to ensure that important details are not overlooked.

  • Live in the the present. Planning for the future is important, but being preoccupied with the past or the future will lead to missing out on with is going on now.

  • Allow transition time between activities. Put things where they belong, write a date on your calendar and think over new information. Rushing from task to task can cause errors.

  • Arrive ahead of time for appointments and meetings. The stress of being late can interfere with your ability to remember. Spend the extra time preparing for the meeting. Avoid over scheduling, which makes it impossible to be on time.

  • Build time into your life for physical activity and fun.

A Gift of Thanks

gratitude" There is a law of gratitude, and if you are to get the results you seek, it is absolutely necessary that you should observe this law. You cannot exercise much power without gratitude because it is gratitude that keeps you connected with power. The creative power within us makes us into the image of that to which we give our attention. The grateful mind is constantly fixed upon the best, therefore it will receive the best." ~ Wallace Wattles - Science of Getting Rich

November is the month we focus of thanks and gratitude. To show my appreciation and thanks for your readership and friendship, I put together a booklet of Thanksgiving stories, poems and games… enjoy and feel free to share it with the people in your life.

Time Management Mentality Trap # 3 Is employee mentality ruining your business?

November 14th, 2008
· Filed Under: Entrepreneur Time Management

hard wordOperating in the Multiplicity of Stuff Syndrome keeps you working hard on all the wrong things.

You spend tremendous amount of time working on stuff. That stuff doesn’t produce any results or income what so ever. The more you keep doing stuff… the less income and results happen.

This brings us to the third time management trap…

Time Management Mentality Trap #3
Failure results because you didn’t work hard enough.

The exact opposite is true… entrepreneurs often close their doors from burn out and exhaustion.

Drop the slogans… no pain… no gain… and nothing worth while is easy… from your vocabulary. It’s not about working hard to get where you want to go, it’s about working easier the smart way.

Working harder longer hours doesn’t equal more money… it may temporarily but not in the long run.

Every successful business sooner or later reaches the point where everything you did when you started your business no longer works.

Your success is no longer about time and effort. It’s important to switch from the Punch Clock mentality of being paid by the hour or trading time for dollars. That employee mentality running your business.

Remember you reached a certain point in your business where your success is now strictly a function of results.

All performances produce results. Results = distinct occurrences and accomplishments that you can count and measure.

Traditional Time Management structure was developed for the employee not the business owner. Time to flip everything you learned about time management and start Thinking Outside the Clock. tm

Time Management Mentality Trap # 2 Keeps You Very Exhausted

November 6th, 2008
· Filed Under: Entrepreneur Time Management

rest and relaxation beachLast week we talked about the first time management mentality trap –The more hours I work the more productive I must be.

Today we will explore the second time management mentality trap…

Time Management Mentality Trap # 2 that keeps you tired and exhausted

Time Management Mentality Trap #2
Time Off is a Reward.

Your business thrives on your creativity and imagination to turn your ideas into an income source. Exhaustion deprives you of the energy and creativity needed to see your ideas to the end result.

Your ability to turn ideas into income becomes hindered when you keep working harder and longer with no breaks.

The puritan hard work ethic conditioned you to see time off as something you earned through completing your hard work. You only take time off when everything is completed in your business.

The problem… Multiplicity of Stuff Syndrome keeps generating more and more for you to do. Even if you do take time off, you usually feel guilty because of all the work you still need to complete.

Taking Time off will increase your productivity. Thinking Outside the Clock Success System makes taking time off a priority… a requirement.

More Time Off = More Money

Taking time off will create tremendous breakthroughs for your business.

Take time off to do the things you enjoy. Make it a top priority… not a luxury… be lazy if you choose… Rest and relax without guilt!

Allow yourself to totally disconnect… no business activities for 24 hours. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself and your business. Your family and friends will probably appreciate it too.
