Time Management Mentality Trap # 3 Is employee mentality ruining your business?

November 14th, 2008
· Filed Under: Entrepreneur Time Management

hard wordOperating in the Multiplicity of Stuff Syndrome keeps you working hard on all the wrong things.

You spend tremendous amount of time working on stuff. That stuff doesn’t produce any results or income what so ever. The more you keep doing stuff… the less income and results happen.

This brings us to the third time management trap…

Time Management Mentality Trap #3
Failure results because you didn’t work hard enough.

The exact opposite is true… entrepreneurs often close their doors from burn out and exhaustion.

Drop the slogans… no pain… no gain… and nothing worth while is easy… from your vocabulary. It’s not about working hard to get where you want to go, it’s about working easier the smart way.

Working harder longer hours doesn’t equal more money… it may temporarily but not in the long run.

Every successful business sooner or later reaches the point where everything you did when you started your business no longer works.

Your success is no longer about time and effort. It’s important to switch from the Punch Clock mentality of being paid by the hour or trading time for dollars. That employee mentality running your business.

Remember you reached a certain point in your business where your success is now strictly a function of results.

All performances produce results. Results = distinct occurrences and accomplishments that you can count and measure.

Traditional Time Management structure was developed for the employee not the business owner. Time to flip everything you learned about time management and start Thinking Outside the Clock. tm

Time Management Mentality Trap # 2 Keeps You Very Exhausted

November 6th, 2008
· Filed Under: Entrepreneur Time Management

rest and relaxation beachLast week we talked about the first time management mentality trap –The more hours I work the more productive I must be.

Today we will explore the second time management mentality trap…

Time Management Mentality Trap # 2 that keeps you tired and exhausted

Time Management Mentality Trap #2
Time Off is a Reward.

Your business thrives on your creativity and imagination to turn your ideas into an income source. Exhaustion deprives you of the energy and creativity needed to see your ideas to the end result.

Your ability to turn ideas into income becomes hindered when you keep working harder and longer with no breaks.

The puritan hard work ethic conditioned you to see time off as something you earned through completing your hard work. You only take time off when everything is completed in your business.

The problem… Multiplicity of Stuff Syndrome keeps generating more and more for you to do. Even if you do take time off, you usually feel guilty because of all the work you still need to complete.

Taking Time off will increase your productivity. Thinking Outside the Clock Success System makes taking time off a priority… a requirement.

More Time Off = More Money

Taking time off will create tremendous breakthroughs for your business.

Take time off to do the things you enjoy. Make it a top priority… not a luxury… be lazy if you choose… Rest and relax without guilt!

Allow yourself to totally disconnect… no business activities for 24 hours. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself and your business. Your family and friends will probably appreciate it too.

Time Management Mentality Trap # 1 Keeps You Very Busy

October 30th, 2008
· Filed Under: Entrepreneur Time Management

time managementHow do you control employees and managers productivity in the company? You invent Time Management so you can speed up and cram more activities in a give clock space. Great way to get the most out of your employees… not so great if you are the business owner.

Time Management Mentality Trap # 1 that keep you trapped under piles of stuff.

Time Management Mentality Trap #1
The more hours I work the more productive I must be.

This is one of the biggest mistakes most entrepreneurs make and can cost them their business. You already reached the point where working more produces the opposite effect. You see diminished results for your efforts.

You must work long hours and work hard at the beginning of your business. But when you hit a certain level of success in your business, you need to flip everything you learned on its head. You reached the point where your success is no longer about time and effort.

Multiplicity of Stuff Syndrome occurs naturally in every success business. Customers generate it. That’s good… it means all those long hours… all that hard work paid off.

More customers = more stuff. More stuff = more hours trying to keep up. You can’t eliminate Multiplicity of Stuff. I guess you can if you get rid of your customers. And many solo entrepreneurs do just that. They find running themselves stretch beyond their limits. It’s just not worth all the long hours anymore.

This is a signal its time to change the way you run your business. The success of your business is no longer about time and effort. Your success is strictly a function of results.

Traditional time management does not deal multiplicity of stuff issue the solo entrepreneur faces. It wasn’t designed to… remember time management is for the employee. Time management encourages cramming more and more stuff into your calendar. The last thing you need to do at this point.

If you find yourself with "Too Much To Do" and not enough time to do it… pause and ask yourself… Do I really need to do this? Put the question on a post it note and attach it to your computer

Asking this simple question will help you gain more control over your day and eliminate unnecessary time draining tasks.

Did You See Alex Karis’s Video?

October 30th, 2008
· Filed Under: Business Strategies · Social Networking

Alex Karis

How do you set yourself apart from the millions of people on Facebook? Alex uses video in a very powerful and inspiring way to further develop his Facebook connections.

Whether Alex made the video himself or somebody put it together for him is irrelevant. This is a brilliant masterpiece of understanding human nature. His video pays tribute to members of his Facebook group, "The Hurricane of Gratitude."

He titles the video "Do You Know these Grateful souls?" to entice you to watch it. What a thrill to see many of your friend’s faces. A smile forms on your face and you say to yourself… " I know that person." A bigger smile and excitement comes over you when you see your picture in the video.

He thoughtful handles the video time constraints with this note… "There are so many of you that are not in this…please don’t mistake my appreciation of you…I could only get so many in this video…I have another one planned for you."

Facebook limits the number of tags you can use. So anybody he couldn’t tag, he let them know by posting the video on their wall.

This video skillfully conveys the power of gratitude. People like and will respond to those who show them gratitude and appreciation.

I hate to admit it but this video became a major kick in the butt for me. Thanks Alex for the carefully crafted reminder that I neglected showing my appreciation and gratitude lately. My gratitude journal contains too many blank pages.

Did you see his video yet? Check it out. There are lots of good lessons in marketing and using social networking. Let it inspire you to think of ways to further build the relationships in your life and show how much you appreciate them.

Social Networking Increases Influence for More than Just Politicians

October 29th, 2008

social network sitesCLEVELAND , OHIO Millions have noticed this campaign season how Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama harnessed the power of the Internet to fund his campaign and woo voters at sites like Facebook and MySpace. Small and home-based business owners are also waking up to using social networking sites to connect and create cash flow.

Some entrepreneurs are cleaning up getting customers through social networking sites. However, others are left scratching their heads wondering if what seems like a colossal waste of time will ever pay off in these tumultuous times when low return business activities are unwise. An enterprising woman has created “The Social Networking Formula” to help business owners’ speed up the process.

Social networking authority Ann Rusnak says, “Some components of Obama’s strategy are actually a good model for business owners. For example, start building your networks and connecting with people before you need it, before your actual launch. Your social networking strategy makes a big difference in your results rather than jumping in without a plan.”

Rusnak, CEO of “The Time Diva” spent years running others’ businesses. She started her own commercial interior design business and quickly tasted success. But the strain of 16-18 hour days took a serious toll. She literally collapsed, was hospitalized and spent three months bedridden. “When I finally started working again I could only work 15 minutes at a time.” She noticed many people who started businesses to have more freedom and time ended up with business that took over their lives.

She developed and introduced “The Social Networking Formula” for business owners with big time constraints. “People who get my system discover how to focus on the necessary activities to help them grow and skip the time-wasters. They develop online business relationships and get a better return for their time.”

The Social Networking System includes a series of four online audios and videos and is available at http://www.socialnetworkformula.com Each of the four audios is broken down into smaller 15-minute chunks. A support forum gives business owners a way to get answers to questions and connect with each other.

Rusnak concluded, “I developed the program because people kept asking me how I was getting such great results using social networking in so little time.”
