Entrepreneur Time Management- Are You Wasting Time Beating Dead Horses?

My friend Anna Farmery of The Engaging Brand, got me thinking about something. Our busy lives often prompt us to seek time management techniques that will provide quick relief. In our quest for a quick time management fix, it’s easy to over look subtle time waster that can steal years from your life.

Anna made a comment that she noticed I revamped my business.

Yes I told her- revamped, re-invented and now I’m rebuilding it.

Anna says "Wow sounds great, are you happy with it?"

"Yes for the first time in 2 years I’m happy. I finally connected with right people to get me over the business hump. The process took about 5 months."

What Anna said next gave a moment of pause…

"That’s fantastic Ann; you mean The Time Diva wasted time getting to the right place?"

embarrassed-monkeyI hate to admit but she is right. I reached the point where I couldn’t grow my business to the next level. I kept doing the same things over and over with no avail.

Yep, I kept beating a dead horse… Just in case you don’t know the meaning of beating a dead horse… action that has no purpose, because no matter how hard or how long you beat a dead horse, it is not going to get up and run and waste time doing something that won’t happen.

Yet I kept insisting on beating that dead horse until it decayed and turned to dust.

Now what does one do with a pile of dust? For first time I admitted that if I knew how to reach that next level, I would have done it already. Taking the "doing alone" approach didn’t work very well. How embarrassing!

I would need to ask for help.

Asking for help can become a double edge sword. Asking for help can save you a lot of time and grief… but it’s also embarrassing to admit you need help in the first place. You think it might make you look weak and unsuccessful. That’s how I felt.

Not asking for help cost me big time and set my business back several years. If only I gotten of my high horse instead of beating it.

What dead horses are beating?
