[Social Network Formula] Where is the Facebook Ignore All Button?

July 27th, 2008

Facebook changed it’s profile look this week. I’m getting use to it. Actually I discovered I can get through Mari Smith’s Recommended Daily Activities Checklist much quicker.

Except for one little thing… The Ignore All button is gone… poof…. vanished. It took me 3 times longer to process requests this week. I’m not the only feel this pain… Jim Turner wrote an excellent note about the Disappearance of the Ignore All Button.

I already started blocking certain apps that I’ll never use but I noticed it’s often the same group of people sending app request. So I created an Application Acceptance policy. So from now on when someone sends me more than 2 frivolous applications, I exercise the option to ignore invites from this friend. It’s up to you to determine what you consider a frivolous application.

You can find this option right below the Accept/Ignore buttons

This DOES NOT block them as a friend… it only blocks you from seeing the application invite and they don’t know you are ignoring their invites.

Since implementing this policy, the time to process requests reduced dramatically and at times I can go for 24 hours or more without on application invite. Less time I use in processing app requesst, means more time to invest in connecting and building relationships.

PS.

My Mentor and Friend Mari Smith is hosting an impromptu Q&A Webinar on July 29 @1:00pm EST to review the new Facebook design, answer any questions you may have, show you a few cool things…. PLUS talk about some Twitter strategies. This is a PRIVATE webinar of the Facebook for Professionals program members.

Time Blocking: Mastering the Art of Time Management

July 10th, 2008
· Filed Under: Entrepreneur Time Management · Multitasking

time blockingThe Art of Time Blocking can bring control and balance in your life.

What exactly is time blocking?

You allocate designated 15 minute time blocks for specific activities or tasks throughout your day. During that time block, you stay 100% super focused on the task at hand. No multitasking.

The most I can stay focused is 3 time blocks or 45 minutes. Since this time requires high concentration, I schedule these blocks during my peak energy times. Each day will consist of 2-3 super focused zones of high profit activities. This is one of the best time management strategies my mentor Margaret shared with me.

When one of my clients applied this strategy, he was amazed at what he got accomplished. He increased his productivity by 33% not to mention his income too.

Always set your timer when entering a super focus time block. Using a timer keeps you more focused and deters you from engaging in multitasking. You may find it difficult to stay 100% for 15 minutes, especially if you fancy yourself an expert multitasker.

If you desire to complete a project, try time blocking over the next 5-7 days. Stay 100% focused on the activities for the project. Share how much you actually got completed.

I’ll bet you’ll astonish yourself.

Now What?

July 9th, 2008

computer backupWhile eagerly waiting the arrival of my new computer, something my husband said got me thinking… switching over won’t be a big deal. I’ll only need about a half a day to install all software and then I’m up and running. All my files reside on an external hard drive. That’s what got me thinking.

If anything happens to that hard drive, I’m out of luck. Before I got the hard drive, I backed up everything on discs. I guess I could do that again but it’s an all day job and takes 80 bazillion cds to store all the data. Not the best use of time and resources.

Are you one of those people who doesn’t back up their data?

This is often one of those neglected.. "I don’t have time right now"… put it on the back burner things to do later.. Just imagine the time you would waste not to mention grief if you lost your data. Not sure what to store? This Microsoft article gives you a nice starter checklist.

Another thing my techie recommended I backup my Application Data folder. So once a week I back it up on the external drive… which brings me back to finding an effective way to back up the data on the external hard drive.

So I’m looking into using an online storage service.

Yesterday on Twitter @caroldeckert said she was still trying to restore her computer files since Sunday using Carbonite Online Backup System. I definitely want a service that won’t take days to restore data. My mentor and mastermind partner Kirt Christensen uses and recommended Mozy.com

Before I commit to Mozy, I like to hear your two cents on how you back up your data. What do you use? and how happy are you with it?
